Italy

While many experts talk up Spain and Brazil’s chances it is easy to forget that Italy are the reigning world champions. Italy’s chances of retaining the trophy may be harmed by the fact that it is the same team from the 2006 triumph who were viewed too old then and are four years older now. Not enough players have broken through in this period for the fans likening however like Germany Italy are a team who are used to being written off yet have a winning mentality and are renowned for finding a way to win against the odds.

Prediction - 1^st

Traditionally slow starters, watch how Italy play below par in their three games yet are able to grind out nine points.

New Zealand

Whatever they do will be viewed as a bonus. Benefited from Australia’s switch from the Oceania to Asia qualifying section. Being among the world’s best will be a real adventure for a nation where rugby is their favored sport. Qualification should be taken into context, beat nations such as Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Fiji and in the play offs Bahrain while over the years routinely are losing to the likes of Thailand, Tanzania and Botswana.

Paraguay

After Paraguay disappointed at the last World Cup due to what many of their fans felt was a negative approach they have responded in the last four years by putting together a more attractive looking side with plenty of attacking qualities.

The South Americans have just experienced their best ever qualifying campaign finishing third.

Prediction 2^nd

Seeing as they were not seeded the group could have been a lot worse for Paraguay. They should have enough fire power to overpower the other two teams in the group and even give Italy a run for their money.

Slovakia

Qualified for the World Cup for the first time ever with no frills, professional displays. Struggled away from home which may be a factor in South Africa.

Two of the three games are winnable as long as Slovakians players can deal with the pressure of making history in their first ever World Cup.

Prediction- 3rd

A kind group for a team in their first ever finals.

New Zealand is the perfect opponent for them to start the campaign against. Three points on match day one should help settle down any potential nerves.
