Who Will Win World Cup
June 10, 2010
Knockout stages
Last 16
Uruguay versus Nigeria
Argentina Versus France
England Versus Australia
Germany Versus USA
Italy Versus Denmark
Holland Versus Paraguay
Brazil Versus Switzerland
Spain Versus Portugal
Uruguay Versus Nigeria
Whoever wins this will be regarded as the surprise team of the tournament. With it being in Africa I take Nigeria to edge a game so tight it might even go to extra time.
Argentina Versus France
Two talented teams but both with managers capable of making a mess in a split second. Think Argentina will just have a bit too much.
England Versus Australia
One of the great sporting rivalries except in football England will be red hot favorites. At this point everyone will be talking England up which generally means England will scrape through after the Australians give us the scare of our lives.
Germany Versus USA
The USA will once again show plenty of heart and give everything to the cause. Germany will once again be efficient but not spectacular before cruelly showing the Americans why they are the kings of knockout finals.
Italy Versus Denmark
The shock of the last 16 as Italy’s old legs catch up with them as Denmark buzzing with confidence and with nothing to lose pull off a famous upset.
Holland versus Paraguay
Holland show Paraguay the true meaning of attacking football as the team on orange begin to click. I predict an enigmatic dutch win.
Brazil versus Switzerland
While Switzerland organized and disciplined de3fence would have been efficient in the group stages I just can’t see how they will keep the Brazilians out.
Spain versus Portugal
Spain crash out – yes thats right I said it. Spain will buckle under the pressure of being favorites while Portugal’s chances will be dismissed, something a certain Mr Ronaldo will relish.
Quarter finals
England versus Nigeria
Argentina versus Germany
Holland versus Brazil
Portugal versus Denmark
England versus Nigeria
England cannot believe their luck as this looks on paper quite a straight forward route to the semi finals.
Being the only African side left in the competition Nigeria have plenty of home support. However the Nigerian bubble finally bursts, England record a convincing win to cue pandemonium back home.
Argentina versus Germany
This is the kind of game which might have been different if Germany had Ballack, without him the Germans may not have enough belief. Argentina with too much and suddenly the crazy Maradona is just two games away.
Holland versus Brazil
Could be a classic. Two teams who believe in the beautiful game, love attacking, hate defending. Both teams will take in turns going forward, it’s just a matter of who takes the most of their chances. Van Persie, Sneijder and Robben are in better form than Kaka and Robinio. Holland believes.
Denmark versus Portugal
Both teams will view this game as winnable and a golden opportunity to get to a World Cup semi final. Denmark however have had their golden moment while Portugal are more used to high pressure games.
Semi Finals
Holland versus England
Argentina versus Portugal
Holland versus England
Just imagine the scene in England, fans will be going crazy, the anticipation will be excruciating. Despite being all the way in Africa English players will know full well the buzz they have created back at home. Because of just how much it means to our fans it will be the biggest game of all the players lives. I hate to say it I am not convinced, despite a massive improvement under Capello England can mentally cope with this type of pressure. They will blow the chance of a life time as Holland will be more professional.
Argentina versus Portugal
A battle between two of the best players in the world, Messi versus Ronaldo. The difference could be Argentina have Messi and others while Portugal just have Ronaldo. Finally This will catch up with the Portuguese. Can you imagine Maradona press conference after the game?
The Final
Holland versus Argentina
Now the spotlight really is completely on Maradona. Can one of the best ever players to grace the World Cup win it as a manager? Perhaps more crucially can Mardona cope with the pressure and circus which will undoubtedly surround him in the build up to the game. Holland might be wise enough to capsulize on Argentina having most of the media attention and happily let everyone talk about the Argentines.
A sad way for Maradona’s story to end (not that everyone will have sympathy) because it will not be his tournament. It will not be Messi’s either, it will be Hollands as they finally get the rewards for their footballing values with a long over due first World Cup.
Sneijder to be the star of the tournament.
