April 16, 2008

Two of the host cities for the 2010 South Africa World Cup Finals are running promotional activities aimed at encouraging locals to participate in the build up to the FIFA Finals. Each host city has been given permission to design their own official poster before they are officially unveiled in August.

Both Durban and Cape Town have opened the competition to local residents with a cash prize on offer, as well as the pride that they will be the official designer of the cities 2010 World Cup poster. Over 80 entrants were received for Durban, which closed it’s doors to new entries on Monday.

Julie-May Ellingson, who is in charge of Durban’s preparations for South Africa 2010, said: ” In giving the task of designing our host city poster to our citizens of Durban, we can showcase the wealth of talent we have in our city. We greatly look forward to using the host city poster to advertise the city of Durban.”

The closing date for Cape Town is May 6th. “The winning poster should feature the official 2010 FIFA World Cup slogan, namely ‘Ke Nako - Celebrate Africa’s Humanity’, and will be used to promote the Mother City,” said co-ordinator Teral Cullen.

FIFA have already launched the official poster for the 2010 World Cup Finals at the Preliminary draw which took place in Durban in November 2007.
