2010 World Cup Qualifying - South America
October 15, 2008
Brazil have been handed a major boost ahead of Wednesday’s potentially tricky 2010 World CUp qualifying match against Colombia with the news that World Player of the Year Kaka will be fit to play.
The AC Milan star scored the first goal and turned in an all-round top class performance in Sunday’s 4-0 thrashing of Venezuala.
The Jornal do Brasil newspaper reported: “In the return of Kaka, Brazil scored and created an atmoshpere of optimism,” before adding: “Kako wore the Brazil shirt with great style.”
Kaka hadn’t played for the national team in 11 months, but took just 5 minutes to notch his 23rd goal in 60 appearances.
The Estado de Sao Paulo newspaper however said it was delighted with the performance of Kaka but warned that Colombia’s match on Wednesday would be a much tougher test.
“Kaka was everywhere with finesse and he scored a goal,” said the newspaper. “But Colombia will not be such an easy match.”
Elsewhere, Argentina will be without the suspended Juan Roman Riquelme for Wednesday’s trip to Santiago to face Chile as they look to build on Saturday’s 2-1 win over Uruguary.
However Basile will be without star midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme as the Boca Juniors player has amassed too many yellow cards and is suspended.
The leaders of the 10-nation qualifying group Paraguay, who have 20 points from nine matches as opposed to the 16 points of both second-placed Brazil and Argentina, host Peru in Asuncion on Wednesday.
Paraguay had a 1-0 away win in Colombia on Saturday to keep up their winning momentum.
