Angola sack coach
April 17, 2009
Angola have sacked their manager Mabi de Almeida after a sting of poor results which has resulted in them failing to make it through to the last round of qualifying matched for the 2010 World Cup.
De Almeida has only been in charge of the national team for 7 months and even though he was previously given assurances by Justino Fernandes, the president of the Angolan Football Federation.
Deputy coach Zeca Amaral will take temporary charge of the squad. A permanent coach for the Palancas Negras will be appointed in due course.
De Almeida paid the price after a string of miserable defeats for the national team.
Since he took control of the team, they have drawn with Venezuela and been beaten by Mali, Cape Verde and Morocco.
His appointment came in October last year after the departure of Luis Goncalves, who took Angola to its first World Cup in Germany 2006.
