Babel and Makaay teamwork beats Cameroon
August 1, 2008
Ryan Babel and Roy Makaay each scored late goals to give the Netherlands a 2-0 win over Cameroon in a men’s football warmup tournament for the Beijing Olympics.
Babel’s goal came in the 87th minute, as he finished from close range from a pass at the top of the penalty box from Makaay. Babel set up Makaay for another goal in injury time.
Ryan Babel is set to represent his nation in August despite pressure from his club team, Liverpool, to skip the tournament.
“Liverpool was pressuring him to not come here, but he said, ‘I want to go. And that’s my decision,”‘ Dutch Olympic coach De Haan said.
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has said that he is worried Babel will aggravate his ankle injury, which sidelined him from the European Championship.
