Beckham set for 100th English cap
March 16, 2008
Former England captain David Beckham could be set to win his 100th cap for the national team in next weeks friendly with France in Paris. The LA Galaxy midfielder was omitted from new boss Fabio Capello’s first squad against France, but was watched at the weekend by Capello’s right hand man Franco Baldini.
Beckham played the full 90 minutes in Galaxy’s 0-0 draw with Dallas FC in a charity match on Saturday.
Beckham said: “Baldini came to see me. Some people might think that adds a little added pressure, but from my side, there was no added pressure.”
Beckham, who has spent a distinguished career with Manchester United and Real Madrid before moving to America added, ”I just had to perform, play the balls I could play and work hard.
“That’s just part and parcel for a player playing for his national team. You’re always being watched by somebody. It just comes with the territory.”
With an eye on the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign which begins in September, the Italian boss said: “There is a strong possibility that he will be selected.”
