Bilic to quit Croatia post
January 3, 2009
Croatia coach Slaven Bilic has officially announced that he intends to leave his position once the World Cup 2010 is over. He told the Croatian Sports daily, Sportske Novosti, “I will not stay even a second after that. Four years is enough.”
After leading Croatia through two years of international play, the past year of 2008 has been the most prosperous, as they made the quarterfinals of the Euro 2008. Reflecting upon these past years Slaven Bilic said, “We have stabilized among the top ten teams in the world according to UEFA.”
They now rank 7th in the FIFA world ranking list after obtaining 5th at the end of the Euro, their best ranking since the World Cup of 1998 when they reached 3rd.
After the World Cup 2010, Bilic would like to return to the English Premier League as a coach. Over the summer he was considered for several managing positions. At the moment he seems to be leaning towards Fullham or his old team, West Ham.
