Eduardo Out of Croatia Matches
October 3, 2009
In Arsenal’s Champions League match against Olympiakos, in which they won 2-0, Eduardo seemed to aggravate a thigh muscle and will now miss Croatia’s friendly with Qatar and most likely their last WC qualifier with Kazakhstan. The Croatian Football Federation announced that despite being injured, Dudu will still join the squad when they travel home. The official website read, “Because of a thigh muscle injury, Croatia national team player Eduardo da Silva is most likely not able to play in the upcoming matches against Qatar and Kazakhstan.”
“The good news is that Eduardo will still come to the camp to finish his rehabilitation process with the medical staff in case he can show there might be a chance to play in Astana, on October 14th,” the statement finished.
In his place, Slaven Bilić has called up Rapid Vienna striker, Nikica Jelavić, to join the squad. This is the second time in his career that Jelavić has been invited to the squad by Bilić. Jelavić last month told the Croatian Times, “I play well for the club, and I score goals. Of course I hope to get invited to join the national team but do not want to exert pressure.”
The striker has been in excellent form at Rapid Vienna and will hopefully be in top form when needed for Croatia.
