Emphatic Serbia top Group 7
October 16, 2008
Serbia gave their 2010 World Cup qualification hopes a major boost with an impressive 3-1 victory over Euro 2008 hosts Austria on Wednesday.
A blistering start saw Serbia race into a three goal lead inside the opening half hour.
Milos Krasic put the visiting side ahead after fifteen minutes and Milan Javanovic doubled the advantage three minutes later.
After another six minutes, Ivan Obradovic scored a third for the visitors and the match seemed everything but over.
Marc Janko did get one back with ten minutes left, but at this point it was already too late to force a come-back.
The result moves Serbia to the top of Group 7 alongside Lithuania, having picked up nine points from their opening 4 games.
They are five points ahead of France, but the 2006 World Cup finalists do have a game in hand.
