Eriksson to lead South Africa 2010?
April 19, 2008
South Africa’s preparations for the 2010 World Cup Finals have been rocked by rumours in his home nation of Brazil, than national team coach Carlos Alberto Parreira is set to quit the Bafana Bafana just two years before South Africa become the first African nation to host the FIFA World Cup Finals.
Reports are also suggesting that the South African FA will approach Manchester City’s former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson, should Thailand owner Thaksin Shinawatra end his spell at Eastlands in the summer.
The SAFA have confirmed that they were locked in talks on Friday evening, but refused to comment on the details of the meeting. However, reports from Brazil suggest that Parreira’s decision to quit as manager has already been made.
Brazilian media reports have quoted Mrs Parreira as saying that a decision has already been taken, but there is no confirmation of this, so again, more speculation.
Parreira was in charge of the Brazilian team which was victorious in the 1994 FIFA World Cup and had been brought in to boost South Africa’s chances of turning in a good performance in 2010. That job may now pass to the former England manager if he does become available.
