Gerrard and Lampard still not clicking

October 13, 2008

Gerrard is aware that him and team mate Lampard have not yet found there groove together and that their performances for England have not matched their performances for their respective clubs.

Lampard had arguably his best performance in an England shirt against Croatia when Gerrard was missing and the rumours are that Gerrard could be dropped for the upcoming game against Belarus.

“We are working hard on the training ground to improve. But it is a small part of the team.

“We have a good manager and we believe we are going places and we will take each game as comes and concentrate on that.”
Gerrard acknowledges that there isn’t a player in the team that is guaranteed his place.

“Whatever we decide is down to the manager,” added Gerrard. “He will use different personnel and formations.”

England so far have a 100% record in their World Cup qualification group but Gerrard admits there is a long way to go yet.

“We’re not getting carried away,” he said. “There are a lot of hurdles. We have three wins out three, but it (Belarus) is a difficult task.

“We realise it’s a tough test, but we’re ready. It’s about us and how we play. We’re confident we can make it four wins out of four.”

Gerrard expressed his disappointment at the booing of Ashley Cole after his defensive mistake.

“You have to take it as a man. Ashley is a big character, he’ll deal with it.”

Cole is set to miss Wednesdays match due to injury and Gerrard is sure he would have loved to play to prove his critics wrong.

“I’m sure he will be gutted he has had to go home,”

“Any player would be who has missed England matches.”
