Giuseppe Rossi Likely to Feature in Qualifiers

October 9, 2008

Villareal forward Giuseppe Rossi looks likely to earn his first senior team cap in Italy’s coming games with Bulgaria and Montenegro.

Having been called up by Marcello Lippi ahead of Alessandro Del Piero, it appears Rossi has finally earned a shot on the senior squad after several strong seasons with Villareal along with an impressive top-scorer performance in the summer’s 2008 Olympic Games.

“Finally, my chance has come and it’s an honor to be here… I know what I have to do, that is to play as I know how.”

Rossi featured over twenty times on Italy’s U-21 “Azzurrini” team, netting 11 goals in the process. Born in New Jersey, USA, Rossi has been a part of Parma’s youth team, Manchester United’s reserves, and had a trial with Newcastle United,
before settling with La Liga’s “Yellow Submarines”. The 21-year-old is known for his excellent foot skills and a hard shot from his dominant left foot, and is considered one of Italy’s promising young talents to look out for in the future.
