Gordon could be dropped for Scotland
March 4, 2009
Craig Gordon’s position as Scotland no.1 is under threat according to Scotland boss George Burley ahead of this month’s World Cup qualifier with Holland.
Craig Gordon has not been first choice at Sunderland recently and Burly is not going to assure any player a place in the team if they are not playing regularly.
“Naturally, you want your players to be playing first-team football on a regular basis,” he said.
The Scotland boss hinted that Rangers keeper Allan McGregor was in his thoughts because of his excellent form.
His appearance in the FA Cup fifth-round defeat by Blackburn on 4 February was his first since November.
Since then he has found himself back on the bench for the Premier League games against Stoke and Arsenal.
“We know what Craig can do and we still have a few weeks before the Holland game, so it is something I am keeping an eye on,” added Burley.
“Allan has been in excellent form for Rangers. He showed in our last game against Argentina that he can perform very well at international level.”
The Scots face the Netherlands in their World Cup qualifier in Amsterdam on 28 March.
