Italy Loses Two Juventus Stars
October 8, 2008
Both midfielder Mauro Camoranesi and goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon will miss Italy’s next two World Cup 2010 qualifiers due to injury.
Camoranesi has been struggling with muscle pains in his right leg, while Buffon is still getting over a strain in his right thigh. The absence of the two add to an already large list of injuries for the Azzurri, which includes two others from the Old Lady, Vincenzo Iaquinta and Nicola Legrottaglie, along with Internazionale defender Marco Materazzi, Andrea Pirlo and Marco Borriello of AC Milan, AS Roma’s Marco Casetti, and Olympique Lyonnais’ Fabio Grosso.
Marcello Lippi has stated he plans to call up goalkeeper Gianluca Curci, but no other additional call ups will be needed.
The Italians play Bulgaria away on October 11th before heading back to Italy to play Montenegro in Lecce’s ‘Stadio Via del Mare’ on the 15th.
