Life after Oliver Kahn for Germany
October 10, 2008
Bad news for Joachim Löw ahead of the important World Cup qualifiers against Russia and Wales, the Nationalmannschaft coach will have to make do without his current number one.
Hannover 96’s Goalkeeper, Robert Enke broke a bone in his left hand in training, and has learned his rehab from todays surgery will be atleast 12 weeks.
Enke had taken control of the number one shirt, with Jens Lehmann left out despite returning to Germany with Stuttgart. Lehmann has made a number of mistakes akin to the ones he did with Arsenal, now it seems he will not step out of the shadow that he’s been in for a lot of his International carear; Oliver Kahn
All is not lost for Löw and the Germans, the do have a number of keepers who will look to be getting a call up, Timo Hildebrand of Valencia, Michael Rensing, Kahn’s successor at Bayern, as well as emerging talent such as Schalke’s Manuel Neuer.
But in the sqaud are Rene Adler and Tim Wiese and neither have won a cap so far. So that means Germany will atleast have a debutant in goal against Russia, maybe also Wales.
