Scotland in shirt sponsor blow
July 13, 2009
Scottish football has been getting a bit of a pounding recently when Setanta sports went into administration, denying the Scottish clubs their television money. No further bad news has hit Scottish football, only this time the national team, shirt sponsors Diadora have gone into administration.
Diadora had agreed to a deal with the Scottish national team until 2010 but if Scotland make the World Cup they will need a new sponser as Diadora will not be able to manufacture the shirts. Diadora have paid their sponsorship, expected to be around £1 million a year, up until Christmas.
SFA spokesman Rob Shorthouse told BBC Scotland it was already in talks with potential new sponsors.
Diadora has paid its £1m annual contract up to the end of this year.
Shorthouse said: “We are speaking with their guys in Italy about the terms of our contract now that Diadora UK has gone into liquidation.
“We’re aware a receiver has been appointed so we’re now discussing the best way forward.”
