Totti set to miss EURO 2008
April 20, 2008
Although Francesco Totti has officially retired from international football, there were hopes (and requests, by manager Roberto Donadoni) that Totti would come back and wear the Azzurri for Euro 2008.
It appears the chances of that happening have become much, much slimmer.
After about thirty minutes on the pitch during Roma’s recent clash with Livorno, Totti went down and would have to be substituted out. The injury has put Totti on the sidelines for the remainder of the season, adding to the challenge for AS Roma in their hopes of catching Internazionale in the Scudetto race. The injury may require surgery, said Roma team doctor Mario Brozzi.
Totti has also been sidelined in recent months with several other injuries, including to his right foot and back. Totti’s most recent severe injury came in February 2006, when he broke his foot; he made it back from injury to play for Marcello Lippi’s World Cup team, but at times did not look to be in his usual deadly form.
