van Bommel goal gives Holland victory

October 15, 2008

Holland look on course to qualify for the 2010 World Cup Finals in South Africa after securing a crucial away victory in Norway this evening.

After a goaless first half, in which Norway failed to significantly threaten a Dutch side who showed little creativity themselves.

Mid-way through the second half however, a fine volley from Mark van Bommel was enough to secure the only goal of the game and three crucial points for Holland.

Dirk Kuyt had hit the bar just a minute earlier as Holland turned on the pressure.

With nine points from three games, the Dutch have a comfortable lead in Group 9 as all other opponents are at least five points away.
