Van Bommel returns to Dutch squad for Russian friendly
August 7, 2008
Mark Van Bommel is back in the Dutch Squad. The Bayern Munich midfielder’s last appearance for Holland was in the 2006 World Cup but had been axed from the squad after a disagreement with Marco Van Basten.
New Dutch coach Bert Van Marwijk, who coincidently is Van Bommel’s father in law, has included him in the 19 man pre-selection squad for a friendly against Russia on the 20th of August.
Van Bommel is the only major change to the squad that lost to the Russians at the Euros apart from Van Nistelrooy and Van Der Sar who have both retired from international football.
