Walcott to return for England
October 1, 2009
Theo Walcott was a star for England in the early games in the campaign to reach the World Cup finals in South Africa next year but had had to sit the last set of qualifier out due to injury, however he looks set to return for the remaining World Cup qualifiers.
The 20-year-old winger has been out with a back injury since June but played in a specially arranged game on Tuesday to gain match fitness.
“Theo played for 60 minutes and came through well,” said Wenger. “He will be available for England.
Walcott is hoping to get the nod for the World Cup squad next year but will need to regain his place in the Arsenal team after a lengthy layoff. Walcott is expected to be in the Arsenal squad to face Blackburn on Sunday
Capello is expected to name a full-strength squad for England’s two remaining qualifiers, with the Football Association reportedly concerned that fielding weakened teams would go against the code of ethics of football’s governing body Fifa - therefore harming the bid to stage the 2018 World Cup.
