Wambach ruled out of Olympics

Star USA forward Abby Wambach has been ruled out of the Women’s Football Tournament in th Beijing Olympics after fracturing her tibia and fibula in a match against Brazil on Wednesday.

A collision with a Brazilian defender in the 31st minute of the game resulted in a multiple fracture i her left leg. Wambach is expected to be off the pitch for up to 12 weeks.

“Obviously, it’s devastating, but above everything else, I’m only one player, and you can never win a championship with just one player,” Wambach said from hospital. “I have the utmost confidence in this team bringing home the gold.”
