Zambia sack manager
April 11, 2008
Zambia have parted company with coach Patrick Phiri announced the Football Association of Zambia. The manager’s contract will not be renewed and Zambia will now look for a new coach to lead them in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
The 51-year old was enjoying his second spell in charge of the national side and led Zambia to the 2008 African Nations Cup finals at the start of the year. However, his contract, which expired on 31st March, has not been renewed.
In 2006, he led Zambia to two regional titles — the Cosafa Castle Cup and the East and Central African Senior Challenge Cup.
Phiri also managed the Zambian under-20 side at the 1999 FIFA Finals in Nigeria and also had a spell in Tanzania as coach of Simba SC. However, he will not be given the chance to lead his country to South Africa in 2010.
Emmanuel Munaile, vice president of the Zambian FA, confirmed that a new coach for the World Cup qualifying campaign would be appointed next month.
