2010 World Cup Finals Stadiums
February 25, 2008
The 2010 World Cup matches will spread around South Africa, with ten stadiums being chosen to host the Finals. Before being announced as the hosts of the 2010 Finals, South Africa did not have any stadia which met the necessary criteria to host football’s most prestigious event.
Therefore, the South African government agreed to undertake a massive upgrade of their football stadiums, with all 10 of the World Cup venues being renovated, rebuilt or even created from scratch. This has caused a great deal of panic that the stadiums would not be ready in time for 2010, but the authorities have always denied that there is concern over the deadlines being met.
Two stadiums are located in the South African city of Johannesburg, including Soccer City, the largest of the ten venues, with a capacity of 104,000. This will be the venue for the 2010 World Cup final on 11th July 2008.
